SUMMER 2010
'We
had a great week with a lovely base to stay , but particularly enjoyed a
thoroughly relaxing day in the beach hut- Thankyou.'
'Lovely week. Great house as a base and we loved the beach hut.'
No dramatic surprises re bird species - certainly lots of marsh harriers. Of course we went to Minsmere and other reserves but also saw lots of hares (which I love) and I nearly trod on a 3 foot adder! Many thanks again....
'An enjoyable stay for all of us. Beach hut a huge bonus. Lovely cottage, Coming again, Thankyou.'
'Beach hut a revelation. Where can we buy one?'
'Very comfortable beds. Grand beach hut. Good restaurants. Very paintable harbour. Brillant beach cafe.' ( Susies). Only one intrepid male braved the North Sea.
We
are delighted to have been sent this this sketch of 'Samantha Ks' by a
June, 2010 visitor.( It shows one of the picturesque fishermen's huts
that sell fresh fish at Blackshore.)
Unfortunately, we cannot always rely on our British weather being kind. In 2009 these holiday makers had really enjoyed the beach hut... ................................BUT in 2010, 'I
had no idea how cold beach huts could get when the wind is in the
wrong direction! Your sign on the hut did not fare well in the
torrential rain. Southwold
was, however, still absolutely delightful despite the weather and most
importantly, I actually achieved my ambition to go up to the top of the
lighthouse.
Best regards'
We
have now adapted the beach hut doors/windows so that when the wind is
'on shore' the doors/ windows can be closed agaist the elements,
leaving the sea visible through the glass and the occupants inside the
hut, in comparative comfort, though of course, still not completely
protected from a cold, east wind .

These
2 amazing photographs were taken of/from our hut by Vernon Bailey, when
he and his family were on holiday at Chestnutt Cottage in above (
2009) and below (2010). He retains the copyright of his photographs. 'Another fantastic holiday with lovely weather too. Two of us swam every day and baby Grace loved the beach.'
'Great time had by all. Only one World War 2 mine explosion at the beach all week!' (
For those of you who missed the News, crowds watched as a World War Two
mine, which was discovered jutting out of the sands by a swimmer, was
made safe by the bomb disposal squad. )
' We
had a lovely week in your house again this year and the kids loved the
Beach Mission so much that we are keen to come again for the same week
next year. Please could you put us in the diary as a provisional
booking.
'
'Thank you so much for a wonderful beach hut. Also an adorable house to stay in. (We THANK YOU for your lovely picture, Rosie.)

'Another lovely holiday in Southwold! We'll be back!
Thankyou for your pictures , Noah and Bea. We hope to see you again next year.

'This
has been a very relaxing week and the weather has been very kind to us.
It has been like 'home from home'- comfortable and well equipped. We
especially enjoyed the eclectic collection of books, the CDs and of
course (!) the beach hut. We appreciated all the thought which has gone
into the cottage and we hope to come back.Thank you for letting your
lovely home to us.'
'What
another lovely week staying at Chestnutt Cottage! The weather not too
bad.Alex ( 16 months) loved his first time building sand castles and
paddling in the sea. Beach hut a lovely spot to base ourselves, enjoy
take out treats from The Nelson pub, cheese from Nutters and fab pork
pies and sausage rolls from the butchers.
Also enjoyed trips to Sutton Hoo, Beccles, but the beach hut kept tempting us to simple, sea-side pleasures.
Finally,
easy meals from the excellent fish and chip shop and the Chinese take
away, were both delicious.Thankyou for a great cottage, well equipped-
enjoyed new cooker! '
'We
have enjoyed our stay in spite of the weather,. The house is very well
equipped. We particularly enjoyed our use of the conservatory. Sadly it
wasn't beach hut weather, but we did have alook at it and a brief sit
in it.
There are lots of places to eat- we especially enjoyed the Pier and 'Coasters''
"Repeat
visitors from 2008- back with bikes and binnoculars. Mixed weather, but
hey,! What do you expect at the end of October? Minsmere on Wednesday-
34 species including a great white egret ( as well as any umber of
little whit egrets);and 2 instances of crows harrassing firstly a hen
harrier and, later, a marsh harrier.
Cycled to Beccles via back
lanes and Dunwich Heath via the Bailey Bridge, ( west of the Harbour
inn @Southwold harbour)accessed via the old railway line ( go into
Southwold and , at the rrondabout where Pier Avenue goes left, go right
and keep going.) We walked the old railway too, then headed seawards along the north bank to buy fish. Fresh? I should say so! Repeat
recommendation from 2008 for the Sotherton Farm home-made pies (
Southwold Market on a Thursday orvisit them @GR 422797( half way between
Brampton and Holton on the B1124, Beware regular flood on B1127
lowestoft Road at Potters Bridge. We got wet feet cycling through it. It
was too long to free wheel through!"
SPRING 09 - Incredible
weather - of rain was there none! Really, really relaxing. Included in
